About the author

Practical boating perspective, built around how boats are actually used.

D. Johnson is the founder and editor of Adventure Boat Guide and an avid East Coast powerboater based around the Chesapeake Bay. He has spent extensive time on the water from Washington, D.C., through the Chesapeake and north to Maine, with a particular interest in premium adventure, pilothouse and all-weather boats. His perspective is grounded in practical ownership considerations—family usability, weather protection, deck access, propulsion, serviceability and cruising comfort—not simply brochure specifications. Johnson regularly attends boat shows, researches new models and emerging brands, and created Adventure Boat Guide to give U.S. buyers a focused, independent resource for comparing the rapidly growing adventure-boat category. For him, the best boat is ultimately the one that makes it easier to spend more quality time on the water with family.

Editorial perspective

Adventure Boat Guide evaluates boats through a U.S. buyer lens: how they work for families, how well they protect occupants in changing weather, how easily people move around the deck, what propulsion and systems mean for ownership, and how each model compares with the alternatives a serious buyer is likely to cross-shop.

Research approach

Published specifications are verified against manufacturer and authorized-source materials wherever possible. Editorial conclusions are separated from manufacturer claims, and ABG does not represent a sea trial or first-hand inspection unless one actually occurred.
